Youth Ministry Director
The Youth Ministry Director is a full partner in the leadership of and ministry at St. John's Church of Turnersville. The Youth Ministry Director (YMD) will report to and work under the direction of the Senior Pastor and will be mentored by the Assistant Pastor. The YMD shall possess the interpersonal skills and sufficient administrative skills required to perform his/her duties as detailed in this job description.

The Youth Ministry Director’s primary responsibilities are to recruit, equip, and disciple youth (ages 12-18) and will work with other members of the St. John’s Staff to provide continuity in the recruitment, equipping, and discipling of young adults (ages 18-30) in the categories detailed below.

Responsibilities:
Those responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  1. Provide programming for the spiritual development of the youth in the congregation.  In this regard, the YMD will be accountable for:
  • Establishing, implementing, and maintaining processes, tools, and metrics for an effective, comprehensive youth ministry, especially for those with critical needs.
  • Developing and implementing activities, programs, and settings for youth within the church.
  • Working with other staff to train and supervise laity to serve as adjuncts to support the delivery of youth-oriented activities to the congregation.
  • Be available to youth for individual counsel.
2. Build relationships with families of the young people engaged in the youth ministry.
  • Meet with parents on a regular schedule to communicate about calendars, volunteer needs, concerns, etc.
  • Provide family/parent resources that train, inspire, and encourage families and family relationships.
3.  Empower and engage the youth at St. John’s to become full participants and active leaders within St. John’s as well as the church at large.
4.  Promote camp and retreat ministries for youth within St. John’s.
5.  With other staff members, develop and implement a strategic plan for providing support and encouragement for young adults to become active in campus ministries when they graduate high school and/or attend college.
6.   Support the Senior Pastor by:
  • Actively participating in worship.
  • Enabling the spiritual growth of the youth in the congregation through study and witness.
  • Providing input to the development and implementation of the church’s vision.
  • Demonstrating effective leadership and innovation in the preparation of the youth for discipleship.
  • Modeling responsible stewardship of the church’s resources.
7.  Take vacation according to the HR policy of St. John's Church.
In addition to Ministry leadership, the YMD will work closely with volunteer management at St John’s to provide oversight to the recruitment, training, and support of lay members of the congregation who support the youth ministry. Such efforts could include but not be limited to directing the conduct of regular training sessions, informational meetings, and program development sessions. A sufficient number and quality of volunteers is to be maintained so as to provide for the continuity of all ministry programs.

General Agreements and Other Considerations
1. The Youth Ministry Director (YMD) must be a born-again Christian (John 3). He/she also needs to be comfortable and fully supportive of St. John's ministry style based on a conservative, evangelical, and Wesleyan theology.
2. The YMD is expected to work closely with the Senior Pastor and other church leadership in areas that he/she feels is important to the advancement of the Kingdom of God at St. John’s.
3. The YMD should be accountable to the church office for his/her whereabouts and approximate time of return during regular church office hours (8:30 AM-4:30 PM).
4. The YMD is expected to attend and assist as needed at the 8:30 AM and/or 10:30 AM worship services.
5. Vacation time and additional time off with pay is delineated in the St. John’s general staff policies guide.
6. The YMD is expected to seek approval from the Senior Pastor for any activities which would take him/her away from the church for extended periods of time (vacation, mission trips, speaking engagements, continuing education, etc.).
7. The YMD is expected to attend all required church meetings as directed by the Senior Pastor.
8. The YMD should endeavor to meet regularly with other Pastoral Staff for encouragement, prayer, and accountability.
9. Each year the YMD should pursue and attend workshops or conferences to remain up-to-date with the youth culture and how to impact young people.
10. The YMD should develop a coherent plan for personal growth and continuing education and submit this plan to the St. John’s leadership for approval and implementation.
