How was your week?
In the scope of eternity, how was your week?
How many people did you speak with this week (speak to more than just a “hello” in the hallway at work…actually talk to for more than 5 seconds)? Where they quality interactions?
How many times did you stop what you were doing, or pause where you were going, for the sake of someone else?
How often were you generous and giving towards a need or opportunity?
Who did you serve and help this week?
Did Jesus teach you anything this week?
What did you work on this week (or better said: what did you allow God to work on this week in you)?
To be honest, I am paid to do this stuff full-time, and I’m not sure how well I could answer the above questions. This week was busy, and at times exhausting. It went by so quickly that I wonder what I actually accomplished.
For the record, I don’t think that God is up in heaven with a score card. I don’t think Jesus is as critical of us as we sometimes think. He knows that our weeks are filled with chores, commutes, distractions, days we don’t have much energy, situations where we “miss it,” and times where we run so fast that we don’t pay much attention to Him. He understands. He loves you. He is not ready to reprimand you for all of the wasted opportunities.
But I also think He doesn’t give up on us. Regularly and continually, He wants to get your attention and my attention…that we might see all of life as an opportunity to seek Him and to serve Him. I don’t know about you, but I want to make the most of those opportunities. Some weeks I do well, some weeks I do “ok,” and some weeks my report card would not look really good!
I think it’s a good thing to ask ourselves questions like this every once in a while.
And so I took today as an opportunity to ask myself…and you!
