Experience Easter - Day 6

Mike Bill, Senior Pastor

Today is Good Friday.  It is called Good because of what came FROM the day, not because of anyone that day experienced or witnessed. Good Friday was unfair, tragic, horrific, and brutal. Good Friday was sad and heartbreaking. Good Friday was a day many would liked to forget.

And yet for us, Good Friday is foundational…
  •  As a historic event
  •  As the means of salvation
  •  As a demonstration of love and grace that has transformed the world
  • As the cornerstone of our personal lives and faith in Jesus Christ.

A couple of months ago, we focused upon the phrase “Words Have Power.”  I believe that is most true inside of Jesus’ words on Good Friday.  Inside of His words are the deep tenets of what salvation means. In His words are life and hope for the broken.  In His words we see the character of God on display.  For years I participated in Good Friday service where each “word” was expounded on for twenty minutes.  From noon till 3:00, we focused on the words Jesus spoke from the cross.

I want to invite you to meditate on these words today:
Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. (Luke 23:34)
Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise. (Luke 23:43)
Woman, behold your son; son, behold your mother. (John 19:26-27)
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Mark 15:34)
    I thirst. (John 19:28)
    It is finished. (John 19:30)
Father into thy hands I commit my spirit. (Luke 23:46)
As you reflect today, I want to invite you to look around the house for a nail…or perhaps a spike.  Be reminded today of a God who willingly laid His life down for you.  The nails did not hold Him there…His love held Him there for you and me!

Today is Good Friday.  Remember…Reflect…Repent…Renew...
