“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?” Matthew 6:25
The provision of God is a hard concept when you get down to the heart of the matter. I think that we can agree, with the broad concept that God provides. However, when we are struggling, hurting, down on our luck; do we still believe in God’s provision?
Further in chapter 6, Matthew records Jesus saying, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (v. 34). Raise your hand if you have struggled with this for most of your life… (my hand is very much raised).
How do we wrestle with the tension of believing in the provision of God and not worrying about what will come tomorrow? It is natural to worry about what may happen. This day and age is full of things pulling for our attention and stressing us out.
What are the things weighing you down today? Where are the stressors that take your eyes off the provision of God?
What is reassuring here, as Bill pointed out on Sunday, is that throughout Exodus from escaping Egypt to wandering in the wilderness, God continues to show up providing food and water despite the grumbling of the Israelites. Whatever the circumstances, God was there providing.
His provision continues today. Through every worry, stressor, strife….God shows up. Do you believe that today? Do you trust in his provision today?
