Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10: 7-10 NIV
In the heart of John 10, Jesus speaks to the false teachers that have come before him, calling them thieves and robbers. Their goal is to “steal and kill and destroy.” Essentially, to take life away from us. Jesus, however, says that he is the gate and the good shepherd. The sheep of the flock know his voice and follow. He has come that we might have abundant life eternally.
How is your week so far? Are there false teachers (or other things) that are seeking to take the joy from your life? These are the things that try to distract us from the mission we have been given to spread the Good News. As believers, we are called to hear the voice of our Good Shepherd and ignore the “false teachers [who] keep people from recognizing him and his mission”* each day and week. Some weeks are harder than others and others seem simply impossible. It is when we cling to the message of the Gospel that it becomes easier to hear our shepherd calling our name and have life to the full.
So… How’s this week for you? What can you do as this week wraps up to hear the voice of Jesus Christ in your life?
