We are coming upon five months since our nursery school has opened. The challenges have been many, but I entered into a position that works as I like to call it by the familiar adage, "a well oiled machine". The parents that have entrusted us to teach and care for their children have heard of us from neighbors, or even might have come to our school as a child and are now enrolling their own children. We have a reputation in "Township".
As I walk down the hallways I see these children living life as though there was no Covid. They do not mind the masks for the most part, they are just happy to be at school, (and their parents are glad too). And so for a few hours these little ones get to engage in a world that is mostly just like it has been for over fifty years. They play, they laugh, and they learn to hang up their own backpacks and jackets. They explore, and sometimes they cry when they don't get to water the plants or be the line leader because it is not their turn to have a job. They do yoga, or dance, play games and have parties. They learn to pledge the flag, pray, and learn about Jesus and how much He loves each and every one of them.
So the more things have changed, the more things have stayed the same in this little school. These teachers spend hours and hours beyond what is required, just to make sure those three hours of their day are the best ever. And the teacher assistants are there for it all, the extra cleaning, the new and different routines, and all to make sure that to the children it all seems the same. It is definitely GOD'S work, a ministry, where Jesus is planted in each of these little hearts.
And these unassuming women give of themselves daily, and will probably never know when these seeds will sprout, but God is faithful, and I love to tell them that their crown will have many jewels in heaven one day. We are up and running and doing what we do best-serving Jesus in Washington Township!
Thanks to my computer genius Tina we have managed to transition to a completely online registration system. And although it is not without it's gliches it has simplified much of the process. We are also opening a new format of a class from nine to three for three days a week, something that the community clearly wants as demonstrated by the fact that it was full within twenty minutes of opening.
We are also so excited to be pairing with Children's Ministry to provide an interactive Easter experience for the community. What better way to reach families than through the story of Easter!
So we are taking it one day at a time, and one precious child and family at a time, planting those seeds faithfully!
