“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
These words of comfort were given to Israel after Isaiah's repeated warning of approaching punishment if they did not repent of their evil ways, nevertheless... the Lord is a God of comfort and grace.*
There is so much that makes us tired and weary. Life was hard before 2020 and will continue to be hard in 2021 and years after. We know this. And this hasn’t changed in thousands of years. However, God is the source of all comfort & grace. He was for the Israelites in the Old Testament and He is for us today. So, not everything has changed. We can always take comfort in the knowledge that God remains constant.
When we are going through rough patches, we lean into Jesus. We pray. We worship. And God speaks. God listens. God comforts. God is present. For those who live without a faith, how hard this life must be for them. Pray for them. I am continually comforted to know I have a church family to pray with, talk to, cry with, be encouraged by. The people surrounding us in our church are like eagles wings.
This verse speaks most about the comfort & grace rather than the approach of punishment. The approach of punishment was not an empty threat. But God wanted the Israelites to stop what they were doing so He could show them how much love and grace He has for His people.
If that isn’t encouraging for our lives, then I don’t know what is. Romans 8:38-39 says, “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow- not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below-indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Today, I pray you find your strength in Jesus and soar on eagles wings. Together, we can run and not become weary. We walk together in this life and support one another. Take comfort. Be encouraged. And then, share your encouragement with someone.
