Unleash the Power

By Bill Yerkes
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
This one verse is jam packed with Godly truth we should carry with us every day. However, the power of the verse comes from one word, trust. Every promise included in this verse can be real in our lives if we learn to trust in our creator. When we trust Him to be at work in our lives, He will fill us with joy and peace, and we will “overflow with hope” powered by the Holy Spirit.
I am certain during the past year you have searched the scriptures for words of encouragement and strength. And you most likely have been encouraged by God’s Word, devotions, and the counsel of wise friends. But ultimately, we can only be at peace with our ever-changing life circumstances if we learn to trust.
This time of year you hear all about diet plans. If you are looking to lose weight there are so many options. And many will tell you the secret to losing weight is unlocking the power within you to burn fat even while you sleep. Lifestyle changes need to be made in order to unlock this potential. That means something different for everyone. What you need to cut out or add to your diet depends on what you are currently consuming each day.
This verse tells us the same thing about our spiritual life. In order to unlock the power of the Holy Spirit, we need to learn how to trust. Our ability to trust looks different for each us individually. What we are consuming on a daily basis determines our level of trust. What we read, choose to watch on TV or other smart devices, and the people we surround ourselves with shape how we believe. Sometimes we fill our lives with thoughts and truths that are fictitious and can be damaging to our ability to trust God to do a greater work. And according to his verse, when we lose our trust, we lose hope, joy, and peace. All of these are important to our survival in these uncertain times. When you find yourself anxious, weary, or feeling hopeless, determine what you need to change in your life in order to trust Him to do a mighty work. What needs to change in your daily lifestyle in order for you to trust Him, and unleash the power of the Holy Spirit?
