2021 Expectations

By Erika Davis
Cause my fear doesn’t stand a chance when I stand in Your Love.” - Josh Baldwin, Stand in Your Love
We’re almost two weeks into the new year and already the expectations of a fresh start and a better tomorrow seem to be missed. The change of the date on the calendar hasn’t brought the peace and joy we so desperately need right now. During these days, God has been calling me to dwell upon the words of His scripture and rest in His security.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” ~ Isaiah 41:10
Let’s break this verse down. “I am with you.” In my daily proceedings, God is besides me. Whether it’s while I’m afraid about going to a busy store or spending too much time with the news, God is with me. “I am your God.” Ultimately, He is in control. The actions around us do not change that very simple fact. He is, always has been, and always will be Alpha and Omega. “I will strengthen you and help you.” God did not form the earth then leave it to run like a machine. He’s active in our daily walks. He listens to our prayers and provides for our needs. “I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” When we are no longer able to stand or rely on our own power, He is still there to guide us on His path.
I find the words to Stand in Your Love by Josh Baldwin to be a wonderful testament of how God’s great love for us leaves no room for fear. Even as life threatens to steal our joy and paralyze our actions, there’s God. He protects, provides, and guides us. The loud thoughts of fear, shame, and sorrow are deafened in His presence.
I encourage you to rest in His love this week. The circumstances of your life are never too big, too loud, or too complicated for Him. By surrendering those things to Him, you can find the strength to walk in joy yet again, any time of the year.
