Fall seems to be in the air. For many that means pumpkin spice, warm apple cider and all the plaid clothing you could find. However, for some of us, fall means something else. The air chills your bones, the days are gloomy and the nights are longer. If any of you are like me, I fall into the second category. In my own battles with depression, the fall has always brought about feelings of struggle and sadness. If I were to be honest with myself, and there are those who would agree, the thing that helps me get through is that Christmas is coming!
Seems weird to say that to some, but stop and think about it for a minute. There is hope in Christmas because of the coming Christ. The prophet Isaiah writes this which I find fitting for those who struggle through the fall:
“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31
The baby that we celebrate at Christmas, is part of the same Trinity that created the ends of the earth and is the same Spirit that dwells in us. Even in our darkest times, there is reason for hope in the Lord. He will renew our strength…
Look for the hope this fall my friends. Even when we feel down, tired, and slightly gloomy. Christmas is right around the corner!
