PURPOSE

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

ABOUT UNITED METHODIST WOMEN (UMW)

The UMW is an inclusive mission organization - an integral part of the United Methodist Church. "In every local church there shall be an organized unit of United Methodist Women".

The Book of Discipline, 1992, Par. 264.6

United Methodist Women are followers of Jesus Christ who live their faith in acts of justice and mercy, catalysts for needed change, mobilizers of human and material resources, creators of new areas of participation throughout the church and the world. The total program reflects the historical thrust of mission through Spiritual Growth, Mission Education and Interpretation, Christian Social Involvement in support of women, children, and youth.

UMW EVENTS

Our women participate in Central District UMW events, as well as SNJ Conference UMW events. Several all-church events are sponsored by our UMW unit: Mother-Daughter Banquet, Yard Sale/Good Used Clothing Drive, Baby Shower and Information Night for Bethany Christian Services Adoption Agency, Family Night Covered Dish Dinner/Talent Show, and two American Red Cross Blood Drives (March and August). In addition, we meet with ecumenical area church women several times a year for World Day of Prayer and by invitation one meeting at each church's women's group.

ATTENTION YOUTH

The Women's Division in recent years has opened membership in United Methodist Women to teen girls and college-age young women. St. John's has three youth registered, we welcome more.

MEETING TIMES

We meet the first Thursday of every month except July & August. A schedule of dates is mailed to women of the church in January. Additional copies are on the Information Table in the Church Lobby.
