Sean Lunsford

Sean Lunsford, through Great Commission Ministries (GCM) and New Life Christian Fellowship (NLCF) Church, will be reaching out to International Students at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. GCM is a non-denominational, evangelical, missionary-sending organization which partners with local ministries and church networks in the U.S and worldwide. NLCF is a Church community on the campus of Virginia Tech. Their mission is to invest in spiritual growth, invite others to follow Jesus and inspire one another to change the world. There are over 2,800 International Students at Virginia Tech. They come from numerous countries, cultures and faith. These students have left family, friends, and home to further their education. Many of them have never heard the Gospel. Sean will have the amazing opportunity to share the love of Jesus with them for the first time through evangelism and discipleship. When these students return to their home country, they will take all that they have learned in America with them, including the Good News of the Gospel.

The Rambo Family:

Africa, uganda

Scott, Meg , Timothy, Benjamin, Josiah and Elijah Rambo serve with World Gospel Mission (WGM) in East Africa. Their primary ministry focus is training and discipling pastors and other church leaders to plant and grow strong churches in Northern Uganda, Sudan, and in the future, the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Rambo's are members of St. John's UMC in Turnersville, NJ. During 2014/2015 they returned from the field, trained, debriefed, fundraised, and welcomed their fourth son, Elijah Ronald into their family. After raising about 80% of the support needed to return to Uganda, they were authorized to return in June 2015. In July 2015 the Rambo family moved from Kampala, Uganda to Kasese in Western Uganda. The Rambo's are partners with Africa Gospel Church in Uganda. Currently, Scott is also the Acting Assistant Field Director for WGM in Uganda. The Rambo's will live in Kasese until the Lord opens doors for them to move into a peaceful, Beni, Congo. Meanwhile in Kasese, they are praying for fruitful and lasting ministry in Western Uganda.

Glad Tidings of India

Glad Tidings of India & India Bible Literature's vision is to bring the Glad Tidings of the Gospel to India—they have been training and equipping the indigenous church for over 50 years. Rev. William Teate, Jr. of Paradise, PA is their President. The financial support that St. John's sends to Glad Tidings of India each year supports one church planter. Glad Tidings provides education and Bibles to our church planter and sends them to a specific area in India to start a church that will eventually become self sustaining. Our Church planter for 2015 is Gaural Nitin. Our Annual Church planter sponsorship makes it possible for 720 Bibles to be printed; trains & equips an Indian evangelist to plant a church; enables 30 adults to attend Bible-content literacy classes for 10 months; and makes it possible for 500 children to attend Vacation Bible School. How significant it is that funding given to sponsor church Planters is first used to print Bibles. It is the goal that the sale of these Bibles will eventually sustain their ministry.

Retreats: Retreats are intentional times away to experience a new awareness of the presence of God.  It is a chance for an encounter with God, with other people, with creation, with issues, and with our own hearts.  When we retreat, it is not for the purpose of just getting away and staying away.  Everything involved in getting away, and all that is done while away, involves coming back with a renewed faith and sense of purpose in our spiritual life.  Retreats also deepen the fellowship of our community of students through shared experiences and growing relationships.

COST: There is a cost in order to attend the retreats.  Each retreat is different and therefore the price reflects that.  As the event gets closer an estimated cost will be announced.  Once we have a solid idea of how many students and leaders will be in attendance, the cost will be finalized.

The School of Christian Living

The School of Christian Living is the name of our Wednesday evening Christian Education courses. Along with Soul Solutions on Sunday morning, the School of Christian Living offers the perfect balance between growing in Bible knowledge and learning to apply scriptural truth to everyday living in order to develop a strong Biblical worldview. The School of Christian Living runs on a 6 and 12 week semester format so there are constantly new courses that are being offered. Below are the current course offerings and their room locations.

Classes begin Wednesday Evenings at 7:00 pm

Heaven—Room 203

Facilitator: Heather Schuck

In the most comprehensive and definitive book on Heaven to date, Randy Alcorn invites you to picture Heaven the way Scripture describes it—a bright, vibrant, and physical New Earth, free from sin, suffering, and death, and brimming with Christ's presence, wondrous natural beauty, and the richness of human culture as God intended it.

Genesis 1-11: Getting Started – Rm 207

Teacher: Pastor Bob Barber

The Holy Spirit inspired Moses to record the beginning of everything in the Book of Genesis. God’s answers to life’s biggest questions are found in these first eleven chapters of the Bible: Where did we come from? Where are we going? Why are we here? What should we do? Who’s in charge? Today’s big controversies are settled here too: The value of life, purpose of marriage, design of a healthy family, and more. New believers as well as seasoned truth seekers will be blessed by this devotional journey through God’s book of beginnings.

The Lies Women Believe – Rm 202

Facilitator: Angie Boone

In this video series by Nancy Leigh DeMoss many of the deceptions commonly believed by women are exposed. Lies about God, sin, priorities, marriage, family, emotions, and more are confronted by Biblical truth that will set you free to walk in God’s grace, forgiveness, and abundant life.

During the 8:30 and 11:00 worship services

Pre-School to 2nd grade at the 8:30 service and Pre-School to 5th grade at the 11am service. Children will hear exciting Bible stories with visual aids, participate in hands-on activities and enjoy a little snack. Understanding the Bible and how it guides us through life is our primary focus. Parents can then take their child to the corresponding room location.

Kate Mularski

Student Ministries Director

What if we really believed that what the Bible says is true? What if we lived our lives like we believed it and raised our children to live like “nothing is impossible with God” and they are “more than conquerors through Him who loved us”?

My goal is to continually work on becoming the woman that God created me to be and fulfill His purposes for my life. My purpose at St. John’s is to create and facilitate ministries for children that help them Connect with God, Each Other and the World. God captured my heart when I was three years old, and He changed the course of my life on my very first mission trip to Haiti at 19 years old. My prayer is that every child would experience the love and adventure that comes from living your life to honor Jesus Christ!

I love spending time with my wonderful, sarcastic husband, Josh and my beautiful, hilarious daughters, Christina, Suze and Bridget.

Josh Mularski

Associate Pastor

Josh joined the team in April 2006 as the Student Ministries Director before becoming Associate Pastor in 2014. He has been in ministry for 14 years and is a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University with an A.S. in Christian Ministries and a B.S. in Biblical Studies. He is currently taking seminary courses through Asbury Theological Seminary.

Josh and his wife Kate (who is on staff as the Student Ministries Director), have three daughters, Christina, Carme Suze and Bridget.

Dr. Bob Barber

Assistant Pastor of Visitation & Children's Ministries

Bob Barber joined the staff at St. John's Church in Oct. 2014. Pastor Bob has been serving the Lord almost continuously since he was saved at the age of 29. He has a B.S. in Business Management from Rutgers University and earned the M.Div. from Palmer Seminary at Eastern University (formerly Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary) and was ordained by the Southern New Jersey Annual Conference of the UMC while serving as Pastor at St. Paul’s UMC in Bridgeport and Centre Square UMC. In 1988 he accepted an invitation to join the staff of the interdenominational Gloucester County Community Church in Washington Twp. and served there for 26 years. Pastor Bob started the church’s single adult ministries and was the host of The Alternative for Single Adults on radio station WZZD for several years. As director of Evangelism and Discipleship, Pastor Bob published Each One Win One, an eight-lesson teaching that equips Christ followers to share their faith and make disciples using everyday relationships. For several years he hosted the radio ministry Each One Win One on WZZD in the Philadelphia region. A highlight of Pastor Bob’s local ministry was serving on the Billy Graham Crusade Team and meeting Billy Graham at the 1991 Philadelphia Crusade.

In 1992 Pastor Bob assumed responsibility for the Children’s Ministries at GCCC. This became a lifetime passion for him as over the years he transformed the Sunday school at GCCC into an exciting ministry that shares the gospel and makes disciples of this forgotten mission field of the church. He made the weekend experience inviting and nurturing by reorganizing the ministry, recruiting and equipping excellent ministry leaders, teachers, and helpers, and adapting cutting edge curriculum to meet the future-shaping needs of GCCC’s children. He also added a Wednesday evening School of Christian Living that offered Bible clubs and classes to all ages, from nursery through adults. Finally, Pastor Bob inspired the GCCC family to develop outreach events into the local community and he introduced Home Bible Clubs and Good News Clubs in area schools. Eventually, Pastor Bob answered the call to launch the area’s first classical Christian academy, and he became the Schoolmaster at Bethel Prep for eight years. Preparation and planning for Bethel Prep led him to earn the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Rowan University in 2009.

Pastor Bob and Ann Marie have been married and have served together in many ways for over 27 years. They have led small groups from their home (still hosting a Circle of Friends bi-monthly), counseled and mentored single and married adults, and have been leaders in promoting the annual Family Life Ministries Marriage Conference here in the Philadelphia area. They have four terrific children and seven perfect grandchildren. You can discover more of Pastor Bob’s heart for making disciples in the devotional books he has published here:

We value a growing relationship with God where we are refined and shaped

through intentional prayer, Bible reading, giving, and serving others.

CONNECTING WITH GOD through building a love relationship, discerning His will, and aligning ourselves with His will.

"As the deer pants for steams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?"

 --Psalm 42:1-2

CONNECTING WITH EACH OTHER by building authentic relationships through Life Groups, Worship, and Outreach.

"Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of His body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love."

--Ephesians 4:15-16

CONNECTING WITH THE WORLD through missions and outreach by challenging ourselves and each other to love, as Christ loved, and to embrace everyone on our journey.

"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth."

 --1 John 16, 18
